Show The Love Of Jesus
Engage Your World – Part 1
May 26th & 27th, 2018
Dr. Jeffrey Allen Love
- My Past Choice To Follow Jesus Should Be a Present Reality In Engaging My World.
- Avoid Dead-Ends.
“While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city.” Acts 17:16
- Focus On What’s Helpful.
“‘…Men of Athens, I notice that you are very religious in every way, for as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it: “To an Unknown God.” This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I’m telling you about.’” Acts 17:22-23
- Stay On Message.
“‘God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.’” Acts 17:30-31
a. Keep It Simple.
“Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6
b. Keep It Centered On Jesus.
“For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.” 1 Corinthians 2:2
My Next Step This Week: I will Engage My World by putting # _____ into practice.
- Distractions are a problem in our media-saturated culture. What distractions tend to keep you from showing the love of Jesus to people in your life? How can you avoid those distractions?
- Read Acts 17:16-33. What stands out to you as Paul uses his surroundings (v. 16, lots of idols in Athens) to address the curious people of that city (v. 22-31).
- What action can you take this week to use your surroundings to help you show the love of Jesus to people in your life?
