STEP INTO YOUR FEAR
No Regrets – Part 3
January 20th & 21st, 2018
Chris Spradlin

“But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in the generosity.”    Isaiah 32:8

CREATING A CULTURE OF GENEROSITY…

  1. BELIEF PRECEDES GENEROSITY

“They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity. For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will.”  2 Corinthians 8:2-3

“For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will.”  2 Corinthians 8:3

  1. GENEROSITY TRANSFORMS

“And they did it of their own free will. They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. They even did more than we had hoped…”  2 Corinthians 8:3b-5a

  1. ALIGNMENT PRECEDES PROVISION

“…their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us…”   2 Corinthians 8:5b

FORMULA FOR BIBLICAL GIVING

  • THE TITHE IS FIRST

“A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord”  Leviticus 27:30 (NIV)

“‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,’ says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, ‘I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!’”   Malachi 3:10

  • OFFERINGS ARE SECOND

“Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.’ And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”  2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Going Deeper

  1. What stood out the most, to you, from the weekend talk?
  2. Consider the following set of questions as if talking to God:

– Instead of asking “Why should I give this away?” ask “Why shouldn’t I give this away?”

– When money comes in ask, “should giving be my default rather than keeping?”

– Ask, “unless there’s a compelling reason to keep, should I normally give?”

  1. How is your default position towards money (and things) represented in these questions?
