Activate – Part 1: The Lost Sheep

Activate – Part 1: The Lost Sheep

Series Memory Verse: “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19 (p.760)

Luke 15:1-7

Question: Wouldn’t you leave the ninety-nine others to go and search for the lost one?

  • I Will Seek Out My “One”.
  1. Remember we all need Jesus.

“Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach.” Luke 15:1 (p.797)

“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Romans 5:8 (p.860)

  1. Reach out to one.

“If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it?” Luke 15:4 (p.797)

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere…” Acts 1:8 (p.830)

  1. Realize my responsibility.

“And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders.” Luke 15:5 (p.798)

“Therefore, go and make disciples…baptizing…Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.” Matthew 28:19–20 (p.760)

  1. Rejoice!

“When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!” Luke 15:5-7 (p.798)

My Next Step This Week:

    • What are some ways in which we can reach out to our One? Be creative!
    • How often do we avoid the very people who need Jesus in favor of staying in our safe, comfortable, Christian bubble?
    • How does building relationships help us to reach out?
  3. Realize my responsibility. Luke 15:5; Matthew 28:19-20
    • How does it make you feel to know that He goes out and joyfully carries us home? How does this picture connect with the great commission (Matthew 28:19-20)?
    • What are the key steps for us as followers of Jesus in the Great Commission and what do you see as your part?
  4. Rejoice! Luke 15:6-7
    • Why celebrate?

Think about the people in your life that are not followers of Jesus. Pray daily for these people that they would begin to see and understand who Jesus is. Pray that God would give you opportunities to reach out to them and share Jesus with them.
