ELF: Everlasting Father – Part 1

“This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly.” Matthew 1:18-19 (p.733)

  • I Will Honor God As My Father.
  1. Know God as my everlasting Father.

Series Memory Verse: “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 (p.523)

“Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot— yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root.” Isaiah 11:1 (p.525)

“As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. ‘Joseph, son of David,’ the angel said, ‘do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit.’” Matthew 1:20 (p.733)

  1. Seek God’s guidance.

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33 (p.738)

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Proverbs 16:9 (p.492)

  1. Follow through and obey God.

“…But I will honor those who honor me, and I will despise those who think lightly of me.” 1 Samuel 2:30 (p.213)

“When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.” Matthew 1:24-25 (p.733)

My Next Step This Week: I will honor God and sacrificially move forward by living out point 1, 2, or 3.
