Fixer Upper – Part 2: Care for the Heart
“God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8 (p.736)
Culture says: follow your heart.
“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives…” Jeremiah 17:9–10 (p.587)
“Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.” Ephesians 4:18–19 (p.897)
God says: create a culture of purity.
“How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands.” Psalm 119:9–10 (p.468)
- Care For Your Family’s Heart To Cultivate Purity.
”Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” Proverbs 4:23 (p.483)
Ephesians 6:1–4
“Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12 (p.59)
- In discipline: treat kids with tenderness.
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them.” Ephesians 6:4a (p.898)
“Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.” Proverbs 13:24 (p.490)
- In instruction: raise kids in truth.
“Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4b (p.898)
