Emotional Poverty: lacking the intimacy and the connections to live a meaningful life.
- Break down of families
- Increased mobility
- Heavy workloads
- The rise of social media
“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them…Always be eager to practice hospitality.” Romans 12:9-13
- Love The Lonely.
- By listening
“(Jesus) asked them, ‘What are you discussing so intently as you walk along?’ They stopped short, sadness written across their faces. Then one of them, Cleopas, replied, ‘You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard about all the things that have happened there the last few days.’ ‘What things?’ Jesus asked.” Luke 24:17-19
- With time
“As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns. Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.” Matthew 14:13-14
- With touch
“Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. ‘Lord,’ the man said, ‘if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.’ Jesus reached out and touched him. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be healed!’ And instantly the leprosy disappeared.” Matthew 8:2-4
My Next Step This Week: I’m asking God to give me eyes to see the lonely and a heart to care.
