Luke 19:1-10 Romans 15:2

Help and Build: Levels of Engagement:
1. Try a Group.

“Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33b (p.825)
2. Actively Participate in a Group.
“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 (p.894)

Conversation Starters
- Who would you climb a tree to see?
(Literally or figuratively.)
- Who played a role in you coming to faith in Jesus? Who helped you see Jesus?
Quick Review
- Looking back at your Talk Notes, was there anything you heard in the service that stood out or maybe even confused you?
Discussion Starters from the Weekend Talk
Refer to the Talk Notes and related Bible verses from this Weekend’s Talk Notes.
Steve began the Weekend Talk with a well-known bible passage, telling the account of Jesus and Zacchaeus. (Luke 19:1-10 (p.801*))
- If you knew Jesus was going to be in town, to what effort would you go to see him?
- What helps you see Jesus now?
- Why do you think the people were upset that Jesus went to Zacchaeus’ house? Shouldn’t they have been happy?
- What evidence do we have of a life transformation in Zacchaeus?
- Do you have a “Zacchaeus” in your life? Someone who needs Jesus and you, perhaps, can help them see Him?
The One Thing from the weekend Talk that Pastor Steve wants us to remember is:
“Help Others Do What Is Right And Build Them Up.”
- This week’s Key Verse is Romans 15:2 (p.868*)
- Our Key Verse for the One Voice One Purpose Series is Romans 15:6 (p.868*).
- See also Matthew 22:37-39 (p.753*)
- Who is your neighbor? Jesus answers this question in Luke 10:25-37 (p.792*).
- So who is it?
- Who can you serve today?
- List 3 ways you can serve someone today.
- What does it mean to you to “build each other up?”
- Who is your neighbor? Jesus answers this question in Luke 10:25-37 (p.792*).
Steve taught us some Levels of Engagement as we seek to Help and Build:
1. Try a Group. (Luke 19:3-4 (p.801*)) See also Hebrews 10:24-25 (p.926*))
- What are some benefits of having friends?
- What would you tell a child about being a good friend?
- If you had been in that crowd and knew that Zacchaeus was trying to find a way to see Jesus, what would you have done? Would you help him? Would you ignore him?
- What is one thing you have learned by being a part of some kind of group (work, sports, church, serving, etc…)
2. Actively Participate in a Group. (Luke 19:6 (p.801*))
- What are some ways that people can actively participate in a group?
- What has been your experience with groups?
- Have you ever served someone for their benefit, but you also benefitted from the act of serving?
3. Lead or Host a Group. (1 Corinthians 12:27 (p.877*); Matthew 28:19-20 (p.760*))
- To whom does Jesus give “The Great Commission”?
- The word “go” means “as you go.” What are some ways you can be a representative of Jesus in your everyday life?
- What do you think of when you think of “making disciples?”
- What are you doing to grow in your faith?
- How can you help someone else grow in their faith?
Digging Deeper
There are more than 35 “One Anothers” mentioned in the New Testament. These are indicators of why we know God’s Word teaches that we should “do life together” as Followers of Jesus in His Church.
Here are a few of those “One Anothers.” Read through them and write down one way you could obey that teaching.
- Belong to one another (Romans 12:5)
- Wash one another’s feet (John 13:14)
- Comfort one another (2 Corinthians 1:4)
- Live in harmony with one another (Romans 12:16)
- Don’t judge one another (Romans 14:13)
- Admonish one another (Colossians 3:16)
- Wait for one another (1 Corinthians 11:33)
- Use spiritual gifts to serve one another (1 Peter 4:10)
- Be kind to one another (Ephesians 4:32)
