The Parables of Jesus – Part 3: The Lowest Seat At The Feast
Luke 14:7-24
“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 14:11 (p.797)
• Those Who Humble Themselves Will Be Exalted.
- Honor others.
“When you are invited to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the seat of honor. What if someone who is more distinguished than you has also been invited? The host will come and say, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then you will be embarrassed, and you will have to take whatever seat is left at the foot of the table!” Luke 14:8-9 (p.797)
“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” Romans 12:10 (p.866)
- Show others God’s goodness.
“Instead, take the lowest place at the foot of the table. Then when your host sees you, he will come and say, ‘Friend, we have a better place for you!’ Then you will be honored in front of all the other guests.” Luke 14:10 (p.797)
“You are a chosen people….As a result, you can show others the goodness of God…” 1 Peter 2:9 (p.935)
My Next Step This Week: ____This week, I will prioritize humility by consciously stepping back from seeking recognition and instead honor others to reflect God’s goodness.
Series Memory Verse: “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (p.907)
