CONVERSATION STARTER
// Have you ever been lost or unable to see the path directly in front of you? What did it feel like to be lost and looking to find your way back?
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
In Jesus’ time, there were no flashlights or streetlights that would help people see and navigate the rocky and dangerous terrain in Israel. People would use lamps made of clay with a piece of cloth dipped in oil and then lit on fire to see during the night. Some travelers would attach a small lamp directly to their ankles so the light would direct their next step. Travelers would do this to free up their hands to carry their belongings and still see their path.
