John 4:43-54

“Put on salvation as your helmet.” Ephesians 6:17a (p.898)
- Only Jesus Guarantees My Salvation.
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (p.864)
- Come to Jesus.
“When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged Jesus to come to Capernaum to heal his son, who was about to die.” John 4:47 (p.812)
- Believe Jesus.
“’(Jesus)…Go back home. Your son will live!’ And the man believed what Jesus said and started home.” John 4:50 (p.812)
- Trust in Jesus.
“While the man was on his way, some of his servants met him with the news that his son was alive and well… And he and his entire household believed in Jesus.” John 4:51-53 (p.812)
“But let us who live in the light be clearheaded…wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.” 1 Thessalonians 5:8 (p.907)
Next Step: I will begin each day with this prayer: “Jesus, I declare that you are Lord and I believe in my heart that God raised you from the dead. And because of that I have put on the helmet of salvation.”

- Have you ever had to wear a helmet? When?
- What does a helmet do?
- Darth Vader once told Luke Skywalker, “your thoughts betray you.” When have your thoughts betrayed you? What caused those incorrect or unhealthy thoughts? How do you get back on track?
- Romans 10:9-13 addresses the solution (Jesus) to our problem (sin). What stands out to you from this passage?

- Come to Jesus. (John 4:47 (p.812*)
- What was significant about this man coming to Jesus?
- When did you first “come to Jesus?” Talk about it.
- Believe (John 4:50 (p.812*)
- Talk about the differences between merely believing the accuracy of a piece of information and the kind of belief we see spoken of in this passage.
- James 2:19 (p.931*) is a challenging passage. Read it and talk about its significance.
- Why is it relevant to this step of our discussion?
- Trust Jesus. (John 4:51-53 (p.812*) and 1 Thessalonians 5:8 (p.907*))
- Regarding Steve’s story of Niagara Falls and the tight rope performer: would you have gotten in the wheelbarrow?
- How is confidence relevant to everyday living? How does confidence—or the lack thereof—affect you? Why is confidence important to our faith journey?
- The man in John 4 saw his son’s healing. How can you be confident in your faith even when the healing doesn’t come?

Pray
- Pray now for those in leadership in our country, state, community and church. Pray for unity and community in these unusual times. Pray that the people experiencing church online would also engage in deeper ways with Jesus and His Church.
