Devotional Day 20: Dressed in His Best
Scripture:
“I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with him depends on faith.” Philippians 3:9 (NLT)
Reflection:
I remember going to a leadership event where I felt underdressed. Everyone else was in ties, jackets, and gowns, and I was in a shirt and jeans. I felt out of place and embarrassed. I wanted to hide in the corner. In a spiritual sense, our own “righteousness”—our best efforts at being good—are like that. They are never quite enough to stand in the presence of a holy God.
But here is the miracle of faith: Jesus offers us a trade. He takes our worn-out, stained clothes of sin and failure, and He drapes His royal robe of righteousness over our shoulders. When God looks at you, He doesn’t see your spiritual poverty; He sees the perfection of His Son. You are “dressed” in Christ. You don’t have to hide in the corner. You can stand tall and confident, not because of what you are wearing, but because of who you are wearing.
Prayer:
God, I trade my rags for Your riches. I stop trusting in my own goodness and place all my confidence in Jesus’ righteousness. Thank You for covering me. Amen.
