Devotional Day 12: A Foundation That Will Not Crack

Scripture:
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.” Matthew 7:24-25 (NLT)

Reflection:
When you buy a house, you always want to make sure it is built on a solid foundation to withstand the shifting ground. A house built on flimsy soil will crack and crumble under pressure. The same is true for our lives. The world offers us many flimsy foundations to build on: public opinion, social media trends, our feelings, or our own success. They seem fine when life is sunny, but they will crack under the pressure of a real storm.

Jesus says that listening to and obeying His teaching—the truth found in Scripture—is like building your life on solid rock. The storms will still come. The rains will fall, and the winds will blow. A life of faith does not promise a life free of trouble. But it does promise a foundation that will not collapse. God’s Word is unchanging, reliable, and true. When everything else in your life feels like it’s shifting, you can stand firm on its promises.

Reflection Question:
What “shifting sand” have you been tempted to build your life on? How can you begin to rebuild on the solid rock of God’s Word today?
