Devotional Day 13: The Food Your Soul Needs

Scripture:
“But Jesus told them, ‘No, the Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4 (NLT)

Reflection:
I can always tell when I’ve skipped a meal. I get irritable, my focus wanes, and I feel weak. My body needs food to function. In the same way, our souls need spiritual nourishment to thrive. We can get so busy feeding our bodies, careers, and social lives that we forget to feed the deepest part of ourselves.

Jesus reminds us that we are designed to live on “every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Scripture is not a luxury for when we have extra time; it is the essential food our souls need to stay strong, hopeful, and spiritually healthy. When you feel spiritually weak, anxious, or empty, ask yourself: “When was the last time my soul had a good meal?” Making time to feast on God’s Word is one of the most vital acts of self-care you can practice.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, forgive me for trying to live on spiritual junk food or on an empty stomach. Thank You that Your Word is the bread that truly satisfies. Help me to hunger for it daily and to be nourished by Your truth. Amen.
