Devotional Day 22: More Than a Building
Scripture:
“Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.” Ephesians 2:20 (NLT)
Reflection:
When I drive past the building where our church meets, I see bricks, glass, and parking spots. It’s a structure. But when I think about The Church, I see faces. I see the young dad juggling a diaper bag and a toddler, the woman who brings soup when someone is sick, and the teenager who stays late to stack chairs.
We often say, “I’m going to church,” but the Bible teaches us something far more profound: We are the church. God didn’t come to dwell in temples made of stone; He came to dwell in people. The church is a living, breathing organism made up of imperfect people being built together into a spiritual home for God. When we realize this, our perspective shifts. We stop asking, “What can this organization do for me?” and start asking, “How can I be the presence of Jesus to the person standing next to me?” You are a living stone in God’s house, essential and chosen.
Prayer:
Lord, help me stop viewing church just as a place I visit, but as the family I belong to. Show me how to be a living part of Your spiritual house today. Amen.
