Devotional Day 28: A City on a Hill
Scripture:
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14 (NLT)
Reflection:
I love flying into a city at night and seeing the grid of lights glowing against the darkness below. It’s beautiful and impossible to miss. It offers a sense of direction and civilization.
Jesus calls His church a “city on a hill.” We aren’t a social club meant to hide behind four walls. We are a collective light in a dark world. When the church functions as it should—loving the unlovable, serving the poor, forgiving enemies—it shines bright. It shows the world what God is like. Your role in the church isn’t just for you; it’s for the people out there who are stumbling in the dark. When we stand together in unity and love, we become a beacon of hope that cannot be ignored. We are here to show the world the way home.
Prayer:
Lord, make us a city on a hill. Let our love for one another be so bright that it draws people to You. Use my life to add to that light today. Amen.
