Devotional Day 29: The Ring on the Finger

Scripture:
“And this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.” 1 Peter 3:21 (NLT)

Reflection:
I still remember the day I put a wedding ring on my wife’s finger. That small band of gold didn’t make me love her—I already loved her. It didn’t create the commitment; the commitment was already in my heart. But that ring told the world, “I belong to her, and she belongs to me.” It was an outward symbol of an inward reality.

Baptism is like that wedding ring. It doesn’t save you; Jesus does that the moment you trust Him. But baptism is your public declaration to the world that you belong to Him. It’s a moment where you draw a line in the sand and say, “I am not who I used to be. I am His.” It’s a physical act that anchors a spiritual promise. When doubts creep in, or when the enemy tries to remind you of your past, you can look back at your baptism—that moment you went under the water and came up new—and remember that the commitment has been made. His love marks you.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of baptism. Help me to see it as a beautiful declaration of belonging to You. I am proud to be Yours. Amen.
