Devotional Day 6: The Great Exchange
Scripture:
“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT)
Reflection:
Imagine you have a debt you could never repay—a bill so large it threatens to take everything you own. Then, someone walks in, takes the bill from your hands, and hands you the deed to a mansion in return. It sounds too good to be true.
This is the “Great Exchange” orchestrated by the Trinity. The Father sent the Son. The Son willingly took our “bill”—our sin, our shame, our failures—and paid it in full on the cross. In return, He gave us His righteousness. We didn’t earn it; we couldn’t possibly afford it. But because of Jesus, when the Father looks at us, He doesn’t see our past mistakes; He sees the perfection of His Son. And the Spirit seals this deal in our hearts, assuring us it’s real. We often struggle to accept this grace because we want to earn our keep. But the Gospel isn’t about what we do; it’s about what He has done.
Reflection Question:
Is there a mistake or regret you are still trying to “pay off” on your own? How does it feel to know that Jesus has already paid that debt for you?
