Devotional Day 9: A Light for the Next Step
Scripture:
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105 (NLT)
Reflection:
When I was younger, I used to take friends on night hikes to summit the mountain peak before morning to see the sun rise. We had flashlights, but their beams only lit up a few feet of the trail in front of us. We couldn’t see the end of the path, or even what was around the next bend. We had to trust each step as it was illuminated. At first, it was unnerving for everyone, but soon everyone realized that as long as they stayed in the light, they were safe.
This is such a beautiful picture of how God’s Word works in our lives. We often wish God would give us a giant floodlight to show us the entire plan for our future. But more often, He provides us with a lamp—enough light for the very next step. The Bible provides the wisdom, encouragement, and direction we need for today. It guides our immediate decisions and keeps us from stumbling in the dark. It may not relieve all our anxiety about the future, but it gives us profound peace for the present. Trust the light you have for the step you’re on.
Reflection Question:
Is there a decision you’re facing right now? What is one truth from Scripture that can light up the next right step for you today?
