Better Together – Part 2: Celebrate Baptism
Acts 16:11-15
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19 (p.760)
Baptism:
A. Illustrates Jesus’ Death, Burial, and Resurrection
“For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.” Romans 6:4 (p.861)
B. Illustrates My New Life As A Christian
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (p.884)
C. Demonstrates that I Have Become Part of the Body of Christ
“And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.” Galatians 3:27 (p.892)
I Will Make Jesus’ Mission My Mission.
1. Be Intentional
“On the Sabbath we went a little way outside the city to a riverbank, where we thought people would be meeting for prayer, and we sat down to speak with some women who had gathered there.” Acts 16:13 (p.845)
2. Have The Conversation
“One of them was Lydia…As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying.” Acts 16:14 (p.845)
3. Say Yes Without Delay
“She and her household were baptized, and she asked us to be her guests.” Acts 16:15 (p.845)
4. Disciple Them!
When Paul and Silas left the prison, they returned to the home of Lydia. There they met with the believers and encouraged them once more… Acts 16:40 (p.845)
Series Memory Verse: “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Ephesians 1:5 (p.895)
My Next Step This Week:
– I will make Jesus’ mission my mission and get baptized!
– I will make Jesus’ mission my mission and share the message of baptism with one person!
