Follow The Leader – Part 4: Win Against The Odds

Joshua 5:13 – 6:20

“It was by faith that the people of Israel marched around Jericho for seven days, and the walls came crashing down.” Hebrews 11:30 (p.927)

Series Memory Verse: “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” Psalm 37:23 (p.430)

  • God Doesn’t Ask You To Understand His Plan. He Asks You To Obey His Command.
  1. Shift your focus from the problem to the presence of God.

“When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and demanded, ‘Are you friend or foe?’ ‘Neither one,’ he replied. ‘I am the commander of the Lord’s army.’” Joshua 5:13-14 (p.170)

“Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.” Mark 1:35 (p.762)

  1. Recognize that God’s strategy frequently defies human logic.

“…march around the town once a day for six days. Seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark…On the seventh day you are to march around the town seven times…When you hear the priests give one long blast on the rams’ horns, have all the people shout…then the walls of the town will collapse…” Joshua 6:3-5 (p.171)

(Jesus) “I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it.” John 12:49 (p.822)

  1. Stay faithful and patient while waiting on God.

“…the seven priests with the rams’ horns started marching…the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant followed behind them…with the priests continually blowing the horns. ‘Do not shout; do not even talk,’ Joshua commanded. ‘Not a single word from any of you until I tell you to shout. Then shout!’” Joshua 6:8-10 (p.171)

(Jesus) “’Dear woman, that’s not our problem,’ Jesus replied. ‘My time has not yet come.’” John 2:4 (p.810)

  1. Celebrate God’s victory before it happens.

“When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it.” Joshua 6:20 (p.171)

“I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.” Mark 11:24 (p.772)

My Next Step This Week: Take time each day to reflect on God’s promises in your life. Write them down, pray over them, and thank Him in advance for the victories He is preparing.
