God’s Not Done – Part 2: Change The Way You Think
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2 (p.866)
- Let God Transform Me By Changing The Way I Think.
Series Memory Verse: “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 (p.824)
The way I think (my mindset):
- Determines how I act.
- Motivates me.
- Influences whom or what I choose as sources of knowledge and authority.
- Affects my view of every experience.
- Shapes my value system.
- Dominates my private and public life.
“Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” Romans 8:5-6 (p.862)
Sinful mind-set: Death Hostility toward God Rebellion Resistance to submission Actions/attitude do not please God | Spiritual mind-set: Life and peace Friendship with God Obedience to the Spirit’s influence Guidance by The Holy Spirit Love for God and neighbor (Know and follow Jesus) |
“For the sinful nature is always hostile to God…That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)” Romans 8:7-9 (p.862)
My Next Step This Week: ____ I will dig into the Daily Reading: Transformed in the Life Transformation Bible (p.A10-11) each day this week.
“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you…For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God…you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, ‘Abba, Father.’” Romans 8:11-15 (p.862)
