The Big Send – Part 2: Embrace Your Purpose

John 1:19–34

Series Memory Verse: “Again he said, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.'” John 20:21 (p.828)

“And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord.” Luke 1:76 (p.780)

  • God Has Written Purpose Into My Story.
  1. Know who you are NOT.

“This was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders sent priests and Temple assistants from Jerusalem to ask John, ‘Who are you?’ He came right out and said, ‘I am not the Messiah.'” John 1:19–20 (p.809)

“… don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.” Romans 12:3 (p.866)

The Freedom Line: “I am not the Messiah, but I know Him.”

  1. Let the Holy Spirit define your unique lane.

“John replied in the words of the prophet Isaiah: ‘I am a voice shouting in the wilderness, “Clear the way for the LORD’s coming!” John 1:23 (p.809)

Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, Experiences

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” 1 Peter 4:10 (p.936)

  1. Point people to Jesus. (the Lamb of God)

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!'” John 1:29 (p.809)

  • John wasn’t the destination. He was the signpost.
  • John didn’t give a lecture. He pointed.

“Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” 1 Peter 3:15 (p.936)

My Next Step This Week:

__ I will discover my S.HA.P.E by attending the class on Oct 31 at 4:00pm or Nov 1 at 9:30am, 11:00am

__ I will pray daily: “Lord, thank You for sending me out on Your mission. Guide me and direct me as to the purpose you have in my story. Forgive me for the times I try to carry the weight of being the Savior, and forgive me for the times when I stay comfortable at church instead of going on Mondays. Help me to live in the S.HA.P.E. you have given me and embrace my role in Your mission. Make me a signpost this week. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
