The Fearless Family – Part 2: Fearless Givers

John 6:5-13

Series Memory Verse: “So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine.” Deuteronomy 11:18 (p.148)

  • Fearless Families Give.

“Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, ‘Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?’ He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do.” John 6:5-6 (p.814)

“test” (peirazo): not expecting failure but placing the person in a situation with no easy answers where his or her faith might grow stronger.

  1. Don’t limit God with what is and isn’t possible.

“Philip replied, ‘Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!’” John 6:7 (p.814)

“…But with God everything is possible.” Matthew 19:26 (p.750)

  1. Get things in Jesus’ hands.

“Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. ‘There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?’…Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted.” John 6:8-11 (p.814)

“Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.” Galatians 6:7 (p.894)

  1. Remember God can only use what we give Him.

“After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, ‘Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.’ So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves.” John 6:12-13 (p.814)

“Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.” Psalm 37:5 (p.429)
