Tightrope – Part 2: Use My Talents

Matthew 9:35-38

Worker: “Here I am. Send me.” Isaiah 6:8 (p.521)

Confused, helpless, no shepherd: “…O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’” Luke 18:13 (p.800)

Pharisees: “…Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.” Matthew 9:13 (p.740)

“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest…you will find rest for your souls.’” Matthew 11:28-29 (p.742)

  • Use Your God-Given Talents To Make An Eternal Impact.

“Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness.” Matthew 9:35 (p.740)

Teaching: Understanding

Preaching: Commitment (announcing the good news)

Healing: Wholeness

  1. See the need.

“When he saw the crowds…they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” Matthew 9:36 (p.740)

  1. Respond with compassion.

“…he had compassion on them…He said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is great, but the workers are few.’” Matthew 9:36-37 (p.740)

  1. Pray for more workers.

“So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” Matthew 9:38 (p.740)

My Next Step This Week: I’ll reflect on my God-given talents and pray: “Lord of the harvest, send the workers!”
