Unshakable – Part 3: Focus on the Heart
Jonah 1-4
• An Unshakable Faith Focuses On The Heart.
- Listen to God’s call.
“But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the LORD…” Jonah 1:3 (p.701)
- Check your heart.
“Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people. Just kill me now, Lord!” Jonah 4:2-3 (p.702)
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalm 139:23-24 (p.477)
- Align your heart with God’s heart.
“But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, not to mention all the animals. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?” Jonah 4:11 (p.702)
“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.” John 15:4 (p.824)
“And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself….” Mark 12:30-31 (p.773)
Series Memory Verse: “But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 (p.186)
My Next Step This Week: I will examine my heart, listen to God’s call, and align my heart with God’s heart daily.
