What If? – Part 3: What I’m Meant For

John 14:24-29

What if you knew what you were meant for?

The true opposite of faith is not doubt, it is the false security of security.

  • I Am Meant To Confidently Follow Jesus.

“One of the twelve disciples, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), was not with the others when Jesus came. They told him, ‘We have seen the Lord!’ But he replied, ‘I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.'” John 20:24-25 (p.828)

When we face our own moments of deep questioning, it creates friction in our lives:

  • We hide our honest questions in guilt and shame.
  • Hiding causes us to miss out on the vibrant life God has for us.
  • We must shift our mindset from physical proof to simply trusting Jesus.

What’s at stake? If I stay in the locked room, my life will be stagnant, and my family and community miss out on the light of my testimony.

“Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. ‘Peace be with you,’ he said. Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!’ ‘My Lord and my God!’ Thomas exclaimed.”  John 20:26-28 (p.828)

  1. Bring your honest doubts directly to Jesus without fear of rejection.

“The father instantly cried out, ‘I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!’” Mark 9:24 (p.769)

  1. Open the Bible and intentionally seek His presence in my life.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (p.482)

  1.  Take one small step of obedience even before I understand the whole plan.

“Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.” John 14:21 (p.823)
